The Book of: 1 Chronicles

1st and 2nd Chronicles.

As we begin our studies in these two books we will find that there are many similarities with previous books that we've studied and therefore we might come to the conclusion that they will be boring and possibly a waste of time. That will not be the case if we recognize certain basic differences between what we have studied and what we will be studying.

The previous books, particularly 1st and 2nd Samuel, and 1st and 2nd Kings are based upon the human viewpoint. We have seen man's view, and will now see God's view. We have seen things from a political viewpoint, and will now see them from a spiritual or religious viewpoint. With this in mind we will see these books differently and even find them refreshing. On the other hand, certain things have not changed. We will find that man will continue to sin, and that God will not overlook it, but he will forgive it.

If you're one of those individuals who find genealogies uninteresting we ask you to be patient and look at these chapters carefully. You'll find they are the most complete genealogies anywhere in the scriptures, even though they do leave out certain individuals who are not important from God's viewpoint in his plans. These genealogies focus on the individuals in a line from Adam, through Noah, to David, and his descendants, which eventually lead to Jesus Christ. The genealogies are organized in blocks of individuals in God's plans. These blocks include the necessary line from Adam to Noah, then the lines from each of Noah's sons including the descendants of Shem to Abraham. From there we have the descendants of Abraham's first son, Ishmael, and of his second wife Keturah, and then the descendants of Esau, and then the sons of Israel (Isaac). From this point on, (chapters 2 to 9), we have the genealogies of each group. If you will take a little time with these chapters and read them carefully you'll find many names that you're already familiar with.

At the time of the writing of this book complete genealogies were recorded that were eventually lost, found, and eventually lost again.
